
Huskies Homer Three Times In 9-5 Win Over Seattle U

SEATTLE – Washington hammered three home runs and scored six runs in the first two innings in cruising to a 9-5 win over Seattle University at Husky Ballpark Tuesday night.
The win improved Washington to 20-14 on the season and snapped a seven-game win streak for the Redhawks, who fell to 19-16 on the season.
Chris Baker, Branden Berry and Alex Schmidt each homered for the Huskies and had multiple hits on the night. It was the second time in three games that the Huskies have hit three home runs.
Berry was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, Schmidt was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and Baker was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
The Huskies jumped on Seattle U starter Nick Meservey (1-2) for two runs in the first. Berry and Schmidt each picked up RBI singles in the inning. Berry's hit extended his career-high hit streak to 13 games.
Washington used the long ball in the second to extend its lead to 6-0. Baker and Berry each had two-run homers in the inning. Baker's shot was to left-center and scored Joey Morgan in front of him after he reached via a walk. Braden Bishop walked ahead of Berry's soaring homer to left field, his team-leading fifth of the year.
Seattle U got a run back in the third by stringing back-to-back hits together to cut the UW lead to 6-1, but the Huskies scored again in the third to go back up by six runs. Morgan doubled with one out, and after a Matt Jackson single, he scored on a wild pitch.
The Redhawks got right back into the game in the fourth inning by putting up a three-spot on the scoreboard. After back-to-back one-out singles, third baseman Brock Carpenter drilled a three-run homer off Josh Fredendall. The blast made the score 7-4 and ended Fredendall's night after 3 1/3 innings.
Washington got one back in the bottom of the inning on Schmidt's solo homer. Schmidt took a 0-1 pitch from Grant Gunning over the right field fence for his fourth long ball of the season that made the score 8-4.
The Huskies tacked on an unearned run in the sixth to increase their lead to 9-4. After back-to-back singles by Schmidt and Josh Cushing put runners on the corners with two outs, Jack Meggs squibbed the ball back to the mound that went through Gunning's legs for an error and another run.
Spencer Jones (3-6) gave up one hit and struck out five in 3 2/3 excellent innings of relief to pick up the win.
Troy Rallings pitched the final two innings of the game, giving up a run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make the final score 9-5.
UW resumes Pac-12 play Friday through Sunday at home against Arizona State. All three games will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
