Huskies Fall In Overtime To Oregon
November 01, 2015 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. – UW women's soccer fell in overtime to the Oregon Ducks, 1-0, on a goal scored just seconds into the first overtime period.
“We came out and didn't take it to them,” UW head coach Lesle Gallimore. “We needed to be more energetic, more fired up, more confident, and we came out flat and didn't pick it up. This is a good kick in the butt for us. We have to figure out what kind of team we want to be. We're talented enough but we didn't playing like it today.”
With the loss, the Huskies' record now sits at 12-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the Pac-12. The Huskies lost in similar fashion last season at Pape Field, as the Ducks scored a golden goal in the second overtime period.
For the Ducks (4-13-0, 2-8-0 Pac-12), it was their first victory since Oct. 2, when Oregon beat Colorado 1-0 at Pape Field. The Ducks had lost their previous seven games before the victory over UW.
The Huskies outshot the Ducks five to one and controlled possession throughout the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net. UW also had three corners in the half.
The second half saw play even out, with each team notching six shots. Both teams had opportunities to score, but neither side could finish, sending the game to overtime.
Marissa Everett scored her first goal of the season 23 seconds into the overtime period to give the Ducks the victory.
“They were more dynamic throughout the game,” Gallimore said. “This was a very disappointing loss.”
The Huskies conclude their regular season on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. against in-state rival Washington St. at Husky Soccer Field.
