
Day One At The USTA/ITA Regionals Comes To Close

SEATTLE – The Huskies finished up play today as the first rounds of the USTA/ITA Regional Championship finished up.
The tournament features 16 total teams and is spanning across three venues. Today there were matches at both the Nordstrom Tennis Center and the Eastside Tennis Center.
Gal Hakak began the day for the Huskies, defeating Tanner Berkabile of Seattle 6-3, 6-1. Kawika Lam finished shortly after, grabbing a victory over Jacob Lagman of St. Mary's 6-1, 6-4. Joao Barra and Enzo Sommer followed suit, Barra defeating Eduardo Bringold of Eastern Washington 6-4, 6-1 and Ethan Ogard of Portland falling to Sommer 6-4, 6-0.
Singles play concluded with Rishabh Raman defeating Junichi Minakata of Eastern Washington 6-3, 6-0, while Wendell Watanabe fell to Nils Skajaa in a tough three-setter 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sebastian Hawken defeated Alec Wagner of St. Mary's 6-1, 6-3 and Piers Foley won a close battle against Chris Clayton of Sacramento St. 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles, Barra and Mitch Stewart won their opening match against Seattle's Berkabile and John Stormans 8-4. Watanabe and Lam were also victorious against Eastern Washington's Minakata and Rendell Burghart 8-2.
Finishing up the evening, Hakak and Hawken defeated St. Mary's Wagner and Brian Lee 8-5, while Sommer and Raman won 8-4 over Wacil Bendjelti and Vuk Vuckovic of Eastern Washington. Finishing up the day was the duo of Douglas and Foley, as they defeated Portland State's Nathan Boniel and Ian Risenhoover 8-4.
