SEATTLE – UW women's soccer won its fourth straight Pac-12 match, beating Oregon State 3-0 Monday night at Husky Soccer Field.
The win gives the Huskies (11-4-0, 4-2-0 Pac-12) sole possession of third place in the conference with 12 points. The Beavers (0-11-3, 0-5-0 Pac-12) remained winless on the season.
“This team is good enough to beat you,” head coach Lesle Gallimore said. “They have some really dangerous attacking players, they played hard for 90 minutes and they didn't give up. It was a game we couldn't afford to lose. For me, I think we defended really well. It was a tremendous team effort.”
Jaclyn Softli scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 34th minute to open the scoring. She received a great pass in the box from Chelsea Archer and tapped it to the left of the OSU goalkeeper Bella Geist before finishing a right-footed shot from point-blank range. It was Softli's team-leading ninth goal of the season.
The Huskies got a fortuitous bounce in the 44th minute to extend the lead to 2-0, as an OSU defender attempted to clear a ball deep in the Beaver's half. The ball hit an OSU teammate and deflected towards the goal, bouncing across the face and into the goal.
Rachel Wheeler scored her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute as she secured a rebound from Dominique Bond-Flasza's shot just to the right of the goal. Wheeler took a touch and slotted a shot just inside the right upright for the 3-0 lead.
UW outshot OSU 17-12, holding the Beavers' to very few real chances. The shutout was keeper Megan Kufeld's second straight and fifth of the season.
The Huskies hit the road this weekend for games against Utah on Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Colorado on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT.
