Huskies Blanked At Utah, 6-0

SALT LAKE CITY - Despite a number of good, early scoring opportunities, the Washington baseball team was shut out by Utah, 6-0, Saturday in the second game of a Pac-12 series at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
The Huskies (22-18 overall, 7-10 in the Pac-12) out-hit the Utes, 10 to seven. Jacob Lamb was 3-for-4 for the Huskies while Chase Anselment and Trevor Mitsui each added two hits.
UW freshman starter Tyler Davis (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on just three hits and no walks while striking out one. Utah's Joe Pond (3-7) earned the win, holding the UW scoreless on seven hits over five and one-third innings.
The Utes (12-29, 6-14 in the Pac-12) took a 1-0 lead in the first as James Brooks led off with a double, moved to third on a bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly from Parker Morin.
In the third, Utah added a second run. Tyson Gonzalez reached on an error to open the inning and scored from first on a double from Cory Hunt, making it a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Utes first baseman Ethan Leiter led off with a triple to left-center and scored on a sacrifice fly from Gonzalez, stretching the advantage to 3-0.
Meanwhile, the Huskies had their chances. Over the first six innings, they'd collected eight hits and had a runner in scoring position in five of the first six.
In the bottom of the sixth, Utah left fielder Shaun Cooper added to the lead, hitting his eighth homer of the season, a one-out solo shot, to make it 4-0.
In the eighth, Utah's Tyler Relf and Morin opened the inning with back-to-back triples. A sacrifice fly from Trey Nielsen brought homer Morin to make it 6-0.
In the ninth, the Huskies loaded the bases on an error and singles from Anselment and Robert Pehl. However, Utah's Tyler Wagner came on and got a strikeout and a groundout to complete the shutout.
