Miller Strikes Again, Huskies Blank ASU 2-0

SEATTLE - Lindsay Elston and Falon Miller each scored for the Huskies as the UW women's soccer team defeated Arizona State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
Washington picked up its second Pac-12 win of the year, improving to 9-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in league play. ASU dropped to 6-7-1, 2-3-0. It was a great day for the game, sunny with no wind and over 1,700 people in attendance.
"We were disappointed after Friday, we thought we played well enough to beat Arizona. We certainly created enough chances to, so we had a bit of a bad taste in our mouth after that one," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "But, we came out today and I thought we played really hard, put them under a lot of pressure at the back of the field and had numbers in the box. We were able to create the chance where we got the PK call and then after that I thought we kept creating chances."
Elston, a junior from Sammamish, Wash., leads the team with nine goals on the year. She scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute after senior Kelsea Brakjovich (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was fouled in the box. Elston struck the ball into the left side of the net while the keeper, Chandler Morris, dove the opposite way.
Freshman Falon Miller (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned her first start on Friday scoring a goal, and capped the weekend with a second goal on Sunday. Miller made a spectacular run on the right side and Morris came out to win the ball, outside the 18. Morris tried to clear but mishit the ball as Miller won it back.
Miller then sprinted with the ball into the box, taking a shot that went off of one of two ASU defenders that got back. The deflection once again went straight to Miller's feet as her second shot went into the far post for the goal in the 81st minute.
"I really couldn't be more proud of Falon for forcing the issue there and riding the tackle the goalkeeper made, and then under a lot of pressure, finishing that shot," Gallmore added. "And she didn't just tap it in she blasted it, so I was really impressed with her."
Gallimore mentioned the play of junior Allie Beahan (Sammamish, Wash.) who played all 90 minutes for the Huskies in the midfield.
"If you are going to say `who was the unsung hero today,' it was Allie Beahan," said Gallimore. "She was a defensive presence in the midfield, I was impressed with her start to finish today and it was the best game I've seen her have."
The Huskies had 12 shots, five on goal in the game while ASU took 10 and three. Senior goalkeeper Kari Davidson (Portland, Ore.) made two saves in the game and picked up her fifth shutout of the season and eighth win.
It was a very physical game as four yellow cards were handed out, two to each team, and 37 total fouls were called.
Washington will host UCLA on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. after the UW men's game.
Husky legend Hope Solo will be at Husky Soccer Field on Thursday, Oct. 25 as the UW women host Oregon at 7 p.m. Solo will sign autographs from 5:45 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. on the hill inside the gates.
