OJAI, Calif. - Three Huskies are still alive at the Pac-10 Championships as day two drew to a close this evening at Libbey Park, the annual site of the conference tourney held in conjunction with the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament. Washington was unable to make much headway in the main doubles draw however, and freshman Max Manthou is the last man standing in singles play.
Manthou picked up his second singles win in as many days as he defeated Stanford's Fawaz Hourani, 6-2, 7-5 to move on to the semifinals of the invitational singles draw. He will play UCLA's Warren Hardie on Saturday at 11 a.m. for a spot in the final.
The other match in the win column today came from sophomore Marton Bots and junior Matt Stith, as they teamed up for an 8-3 win over California's Katsarov and McLachlan. With only four teams in the field to begin with, they'll move on to play another Cal pair in the final.
UW's top doubles tandem of Kyle McMorrow and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan had a disappointing day in the main draw, as they were upset by Embry and Vidaller of Arizona, 8-4. The result and score was the same for seniors Martin Kildahl and Tobi Obenaus, as they lost their first round match to UCLA's Hardie and Amit Inbar.
