No. 5/6 Huskies Take Doubleheader From Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After a thrilling extra inning game to start the doubleheader in which the Huskies won 7-4, UW took control of game two against New Mexico, getting the victory, 11-2 in six innings on Saturday night.
“It was nice to see us come through in extra innings in the first game,” said head coach Heather Tarr. “The pitchers worked well together all night to keep us in the ball game. We also had some timely hitting.”
No. 5/6 Washington improves to 15-0 on the year while the Lobos drop to 6-5.
Senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) homered to right field in the first to put the Huskies up early over New Mexico in game two of the day. It was her third home run of the year.
Two more Huskies came across home plate in the inning as senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) hit an RBI single and freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Junior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) made it 4-0 in the second, leading off the inning with a solo home run, her team-leading eighth of the season.
UW added a run in the fifth, as Hayward scored on a single by junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.).
New Mexico got both of its runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Freshman Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) got the start, picking up her second win of the year. She allowed two runs on just four hits in 4.2 innings of work. Fellow freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) entered in relief in the fourth and picked up her second save of the season.
Washington blew open the game in the top of the sixth, ending it by way of mercy rule with six runs in the inning, including a two-run home run to right center by sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.).
Sophomore Jerrin Fa'asua led the Huskies with four hits on the night. As a team, UW had 16 hits.
The Huskies and Lobos will complete the three-game series on Sunday with a game at 11 a.m. PT.
