ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Head coach Heather Tarr and the Huskies enjoyed another mercy rule victory, completing the sweep over New Mexico with a 12-3 victory in six innings on Sunday afternoon. The No. 5/6 Huskies improve to 16-0 on the season. New Mexico falls to 5-7.
"We played consistently well this weekend against a scrappy New Mexico team," Tarr said. "Jenna Clifton was impressive in the circle for us today, as was our offense. It's always nice to start the game with a four-run cushion. We are excited to get back home and play in front of our fans next weekend."Senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) hit her second home run in as many days, putting UW on top 1-0 in the first.
Junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) followed with a double and sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) singled to left field.
With still just one out in the first, senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) added three more runs to the scoreboard with a home run to right field.
A Dani Castro double to right center for the Lobos drove in Chelsea Anaya for the first run off of Husky starting pitcher Baily Harris (Longview, Wash.).
The Lobos got within two in the second, scoring on a Husky fielding error.
Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) hit her second career home run with two outs in the third, a solo shot to extend the lead, 5-2.
After freshman Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) and junior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) both singled, they converted a double steal in which Hayward scored from third. Smith scored on a double by Salling as the Huskies went up 7-2.
Inglesby led off the fifth with a single up the middle. Junior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) entered to pinch run. Smith doubled to left center and both runners scored after a single to right by junior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.). A single by Williams drove in Pohlman to give the Huskies an eight-run lead, 10-2.
Jessica Garcia hit a solo home run in the fifth for UNM off of Clifton to cut the lead to 10-3 and extend the game.
Sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) reached on error in the sixth.
Sophomore Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) singles. Wagner scored on a singled by freshman Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) and the winning run was scored by Fa'asua on a single by Smith.
Harris had her longest outing of the season, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Clifton pitched 2.2 innings in relief, allowing one earned run with one strikeout, picking up her second win of the year.
Washington had 17 hits in the game as nine different Huskies had hits.
