SEATTLE - Dallas Baptist scored three runs in the first and never trailed as the Patriots beat the Washington baseball team, 8-3, Friday at Husky Ballpark.
DBU (10-5) got seven and two-thirds innings from starter Jared Stafford (3-1), who gave up two runs on five hits for the victory. Chris Haney came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth and recorded the final out for the save, his fourth.
Washington starter Aaron West (0-2) was charged with the loss. He went six innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits.
In the first, DBU's Jason Krizan gave the Patriots their first run with an RBI double to left-center field. Ryan Behmanesh followed with a sacrifice fly to plate another and Kenny Hatcher singled to drive in Krizan, staking the visitors to a 3-0 lead after half an inning.
Both teams were quiet until the sixth inning. After an error put one aboard, DBU's Duncan McAlpine hit his second homer of the season to right, stretching the lead to 5-0.
Washington (2-10) got on the board with a two-out rally in the sixth. After two quick outs, a walk, a hit batter and an infield single from Ryan Wiggins loaded the bases. Jacob Lamb drew a walk to force in a run, but Stafford got a groundout to end the threat with a 5-1 lead still in tact.
DBU got that run back in the seventh as Krizan hit his second RBI double of the night, scoring Landon Anderson from second to make it 6-1. Krizan also had a pair of doubles in the first game of the series on Thursday.
In the bottom of the seventh, Husky catcher B.K. Santy singled and Brendan Gardner-Young followed with a long double to right. Santy scored on a groundball to short as Caleb Brown reached on an errant throw. However, Stafford limited the damage once more as a pair of flyouts ended the inning with DBU leading, 6-2.
In the eighth, Anderson's sacrifice fly and a run-scoring wild pitch added two more for DBU.
Washington picked up a third run in the ninth as senior Troy Scott singled to drive in Santy.
Washington was led at the plate by sophomore first baseman Eric Peterson, who finished 2-for-4 with a double.
The Huskies and Patriots wrap up the series with a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday. Fans can watch live video, for free, at gohuskies.com.
