LAS VEGAS - Opening day couldn't have been any sweeter for the No. 10/11 Husky softball team (2-0) at the SportCo Kickoff Classic Friday morning as the Huskies won both games in five innings at Eller Media Stadium. Washington defeated Illinois-Chicago (1-1) for the eighth-straight time, 8-0 and then in the first-ever meeting with UC Riverside (0-1), defeated the Highlanders 23-4.
"Opening day we just got a feel for each other," said head coach Heather Tarr. "It was good to get Kaitlin (Inglesby) a start and have the defense behind her and in the next game get the other pictures in. Overall it was a good day. We didn't expect to get all of those home runs but if we keep doing what we want to do offensively we are going to have a chance to make those things happen."
Game One - Washington 8, UIC 0 (5 innings)
