Late Goal Earns 1-1 Draw At Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - In soccer, anything can happen at any second of the game and the Huskies needed a last-minute goal by sophomore Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.) to take Oregon to overtime and earn a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes.
Oregon led 1-0 in the 80th minute as Scout Libke scored off of a free kick. In the 89th minute,
"We played well enough to win tonight and couldn't find the back of the net," said head coach Lesle Gallimore." We created enough and generated corners that we didn't convert. Oregon is a well-coached, young and quick team. They were dangerous on the counter but it took a free kick and deflection off of us to score."
Elston struck a ball that was deflected into the goal, her fourth of the season, to tie the game and give the Huskies new life.
"We showed great fight and heart to battle back and draw even on a great build up and goal by Lindsay," Gallimore added. "Sarah Martinez saved a ball off the line later on one of their few corners. Morgan Swanson did an outstanding job of creating a chance late that went just wide. Our injuries and lack of depth continues to provide a challenge for us but if we continue to play well early and add finishing the chances we create early, we will win games."
Oregon took 11 shots, four on goal, while UW had nine shots but six on goal. Elston had three on goal herself.
Husky goalkeeper, senior Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) made three saves in the game.
The Huskies are 6-6-4 on the year and 2-3-2 in the Pac-12 and will face Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., at noon Sunday.
