CORVALLIS, Ore. - The UW women's soccer team faced another tough Pac-12 opponent on the road, falling to No. 23 Oregon State 4-1 in Corvallis, Ore., Sunday afternoon. UW falls to 6-7-4 overall with three games left and 2-4-2 in Pac-12 play.
Oregon State took a 2-0 lead at halftime and got two more in the second half. UW's lone goal came from senior Sarah Martinez (Des Moines, Wash.) in the 66th minute. She headed it in from 12-yards out after an assist by sophomore Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.). Martinez leads the team with eight goals.
"Playing a confident and physical Oregon State team was always going to require ea great effort by us to win. I felt very good going into this game. The second half seemed promising until we went down a third goal and played extremely passively. We have three important games left as our postseason hopes hang in the balance," said head coach Lesle Gallimore.
The first goal for the Beavers came in the 15th minute by Jenna Richardson. Brittney Oljar scored two goals in the game, one in the 27th minute and then again in the 80th. Chelsea Buckland had the fourth Beaver goal in the 51st minute.
UW had six total shots, four on goal as Martinez had two.
Senior goalkeeper Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) made four saves in the game.
The Huskies will head to the Arizona schools next weekend.
