Bruins Outlast Huskies In 11 Innings

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA's Megan Langenfield limited the No. 3 Washington softball team to just one hit in 11 innings and the No. 7 Bruins walked off with a 2-0 victory Friday in Pac-10 action at Easton Stadium.
The Huskies, who dropped to 31-6 overall and 4-3 in Pac-10 play, managed just a single by Alicia Blake and a walk by Jenn Salling in 11 innings. Danielle Lawrie allowed just three hits through the first 10 innings before UCLA mounted a rally with a single, an error and a sacrifice bunt in the 11th before Andrea Harrison lifted a two-run home run to left field to end the game.
Lawrie, who struck out nine and walked just two, dropped to 22-4 on the season, getting the hard-luck loss in 11 innings for the second time in three weeks.
The Huskies were held hitless by the All-American Langenfield through eight innings. She allowed a walk to Salling in the first inning then retired the next 22 batters before Blake led off the ninth with a solid single to left field. The rally was cut short, however, when UCLA recorded a double play on a bunt attempt.
Lawrie allowed just three hits in the first seven innings with the Bruins mounting their biggest threat in the sixth, getting a leadoff single from Katie Schroeder who was sacrificed to second by Harrison. Lawrie escaped the jam, however, by getting Langenfield to ground out to Ashley Charters, who made a tough play up the middle, and then got Amanda Kamekona to pop up to Charters to end the inning.
But the Huskies couldn't plate a run off Langenfield, who also allowed just one hit in five innings in a victory over UW last season.
UCLA's first three batters in the order and their No. 9 hitter did all the damage as Lawrie held UCLA's four-through-eight hitters hitless, going a combined 0-for-18 off the All-American.
The Huskies and UCLA will battle again on Saturday at 1 p.m.
