SEATTLE - Starter Matt Hiserman allowed only two hits over his eight innings of work as the University of San Francisco completed a weekend series sweep of the Huskies with a 7-0 win Sunday at windy Husky Ballpark.
Hiserman (1-3), who picked up a save in Friday's game, walked two and struck out eight in the win, combined with reliever Jonathan Abramson on a two-hit shutout. Abramson pitched the ninth.
The only two Husky hits were a clean single from freshman Kevin Komstadius in the second and a double from Pierce Rankin in the eighth, when the USF left and center fielder mis-communicated on a routine fly ball and let it drop.
Washington starter Jason Erickson (1-2) threw five innings for the loss. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out five as the Huskies fell to 6-9 on the season.
USF (8-10) scored a run in the first. Zach Kim led off the game with a single up the middle. After stealing second base, he stole third and then scored on an errant throw, giving the Dons a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Dons first baseman Stephen Yarrow, whose 13th-inning homer beat the Huskies Saturday, went deep again. His solo homer made it 2-0.
San Francisco continued to roll in the fourth. Derek Poppert led off with a single and eventually scored on a hit from Connor Bernatz, who came across on an RBI single from Bobby Ethel, making it a 4-0 game.
In the sixth, Dons shortstop Derek Poppert belted a two-run homer to left field, his first of the season, to increase the edge to 6-0. A pinch-hit, RBI double from Nik Balog in the ninth closed out the scoring for USF.
Next up for the Huskies, at the conclusion of the upcoming finals week, is a trip to Portland for the Rose City Invitational at PGE Park. The Dawgs will take on Portland, Oregon and Hawai'i before a championship round game on Sunday. Fans can listen to live audio of all four games at gohuskies.com.
