
Merry Pitches Dawgs To Seventh Straight Win

SEATTLE - Junior starter Jorden Merry pitched seven shutout innings as the Washington baseball team wrapped up a three-game series sweep with a 5-0 win over Utah Valley Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Huskies (12-6) while Utah Valley dropped to 4-16-1.
Merry (3-0), a right-hander from Pasco, gave up four hits and walked two while striking out a career-high nine for the victory. Elliott Cribby worked the eighth and Tyler Cheney threw the ninth to preserve the shutout. Neither allowed a baserunner.
Washington rallied with two outs in the second, taking a lead with three runs. With the bases loaded and two down, senior Michael Burgher singled through the left side, driving in two. Freshman David Bentrott followed with a single to plate one more.
In the third, Husky DH Ty Rasmussen led off the inning with his second homer of the season, increasing the lead to 4-0. In the fifth, senior catcher Joey Dunn's single brought home another.
UVU starter Aaron Brady (1-2) went seven innings in the loss. He allowed five runs on nine hits.
The Huskies wrap up the weekend with a 2:30 p.m. game vs. Portland Saturday afternoon.
