PALO ALTO, Calif. - Led by sophomore Christina Yoon and freshman Karinn Dickinson, the Washington women's golf team moved up to ninth after the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course, Saturday.
The Huskies shot 21-over 305 in the second round, a two stroke improvement from their first round score on Friday. UW is 44-over 612 for the tournament and is nine strokes behind eighth-place and eighth-ranked Georgia. In fact, the eight teams currently ahead of the Huskies are all Top-20 teams according to the latest GolfWeek rankings. UW also leads four Top-25 teams - including host Stanford - heading into Sunday's final round.
Dickinson, playing in her first collegiate event, and Yoon both carded rounds of 4-over 75. Dickinson leads the Huskies on the leaderboard and is tied for 24th at 8-over 150.
Three strokes separate the next three Huskies with Yoon tied for 44th at 12-over 154. Freshman Nicole Ferrero shot 7-over 78 and is tied for 48th (13-over 155), while sophomore Molly Aronsson carded a 6-over 77 and is tied for 51st (14-over 156). Freshman Anya Alvarez is 17-over 159 after shooting 11-over 83 for her second round score.
Duke sits atop the team leaderboard after two rounds at 6-over 574 and holds a 12-stroke lead over Arizona State heading into Sunday's final round. The Sun Devils are second (18-over 586) and UCLA is third (19-over 587).
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst holds a two-stroke lead at 3-under 139 over Arkansas' Stacy Lewis (1-under 141). Stanford's Mari Chun (2-over 144) and New Mexico's Jodi Ewart (2-over 144) are tied for third.
The final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate will tee off Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 a.m. The Huskies will tee off from the first hole and will be paired with Georgia and Arizona.
