UW Knocks Off Bronocs, 15-13, On Rindal Homer

SEATTLE - A two-out, two-run homer in the eighth inning by junior Curt Rindal broke a 13-13 tie as the Washington baseball team won another slugfest over Santa Clara, 15- 13, Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
Friday, the Huskies (14-5) out-slugged the Broncos (10-9) in a 14-10 win.
UW right fielder Matt Hague went 2-for-3 with five runs batted in and Matt Stevens hit two home runs for the Huskies. Catcher Matt Lane added two hits and three RBI.
Sophomore reliever Nick Hagadone (1-0) picked up the win with one-inning of no-hit relief. Elliott Cribby pitched the ninth for his seventh save. SCU closer Mark Willinsky (1-1) suffered the loss.
Washington scored the game's first run in the first when Hague, who reached on a fielder's choice groundout, eventually came around on a Lane single and two wild pitches. In the second, Stevens' two-out solo homer, his fifth of the season, made it a 2-0 Husky lead.
In the third, Jake Rife reached on a two-base error, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hague, increasing the UW edge to 3-0.
UW starter Tyler Cheney had faced the minimum heading into the fourth inning. However, he walked Brady Fuerst and allowed a single to Matt Long top open the fourth. A double-play groundout from Gabe Alcantar plated Fuerst, giving the Broncos their first run but ending the brief rally as Cheney fanned Dustin Realini to end the inning.
The next inning, Santa Clara catcher Kris Watts cut the Washington lead to 3-2 with a long solo homer to straightaway center field. The Broncos followed the home run with back-to-back singles and then designated hitter Michael Lange gave SCU a 5-3 lead with a three-run homer to right.
Washington answered back with four of its own in the bottom of the fifth. After a bases- loaded single from Hague drove in one, Lane cleared the bases with a three-run double, putting the UW back on top, 7-5.
In the top of the sixth, with Brandon McKerney on in place of Cheney, the first four Santa Clara batters drew walks, forcing in one before Ryan Conan was hit by a pitch to send home a run to tie it at 7-7. After Geoff Nichols replaced McKerney, a sacrifice fly from Michael Lange, an RBI double from Brady Fuerst and a pair of two-run doubles from Long and Eric Newton put the Broncos on top, 13-7, after an eight-run sixth.
Washington got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a three-run homer from Hague, his first of year. In the seventh, Stevens belted his second of the game and sixht of the season, a solo shot that cut the SCU lead to 13-11.
The Huskies tied the game at 13-13 in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single from left fielder Zach Clem before Rindal's homer put the Huskies back on top.
Long led the Broncos hitters with threee hits and two RBI. Lange drove in four runs.
