Larsen Breaks RBI Record In 4-2 Win Over LCSC

SEATTLE - Senior Kyle Larsen broke the Washington career runs batted in record Tuesday night as the Husky baseball team broke Lewis-Clark State's 15-game winning streak with a 4-2 win over the Warriors at Husky Ballpark.
Larsen, from Redmond's Eastlake High, broke the record with a two-run homer in the fourth. That home run gave him 168 career runs batted in, breaking the school record of 166, set by former shortstop Kevin Miller (1996-98).
Lewis-Clark State (44-6), the No. 1-ranked team in the NAIA, had won 15 straight and 35 of its last 37. After wrapping up their regular season tomorrow vs. Gonzaga, the Warriors will host the NAIA World Series. Washington also broke a four-game losing streak to improve to 28-21 on the season.
Husky junior Matt Kasser (4-4) struck out a season-high seven hitters over seven innings to earn the win. Kasser gave up only one run on four hits, walking one. Senior closer Josh Conover picked up his sixth save of the year by retiring the side in the ninth.
L-C State starter Carlos Fisher (4-1) suffered his first loss despite going the distance. He allowed four runs on five hits while walking none and striking out nine.
Washington jumped out to a quick lead when senior center fielder Taylor Johnson led off the Huskies' half of the first inning with his eighth home run of the season.
The Warriors had a chance to tie it in the second when Brandon Morris tried to score from first base on a two-out single from Gavin Concepion. Morris, however, was tagged out at the plate to keep the UW in front, 1-0.
In the third, after a leadoff single from Brent Lillibridge and a groundout, Zach Clem singled through the left side to drive in the UW's second run. Larsen followed with his eighth home run of the season, drilling a pitch down the right-field line to break the Husky RBI record and give the UW a 4-0 lead.
L-C State scored its first run in the sixth when center fielder Joey Dyche led off the inning with his team-leading 10th homer of the year. In the eighth, the Warriors scored their second on a sacrifice fly from Justin Fuller to cut the Husky lead to 4-2.
