UW Belts Six Homers In 17-4 Win Over UCSB

SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team tied a school record with six home runs and completed a three-game sweep of UC Santa Barbara Sunday with a 17-4 win at Husky Ballpark.
Senior first baseman Kyle Larsen hit two home runs for the UW, a solo shot in the first and a grand slam in the second and went 3-for-5 with six runs batted in. Husky shortstop Brent Lillibridge finished the game 5-for-5 with a double, a triple, four runs and one RBI as the UW (8-7) moved above .500 for the first time all year with its fourth straight win.
Senior Taylor Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two walks and his third home run of the season in the game, finished the series 8-for-9 with seven walks. He had reached base in 12 straight plate appearances before grounding out in the fourth inning Sunday.
The UW scored twice in the first to take the early lead. Lillibridge singled, stole second and moved to third on an errant throw from the catcher before scoring on a groundout from Zach Clem. Larsen followed his first home run of the season, a solo shot to center.
In the second, senior second baseman Mike Rundle hit a one-out solo homer to left, his first in a UW uniform, and after a walk to Johnson and another single from Lillibridge, UCSB starter Brian Tracy (0- 1) was replaced by Nate Holguin.
Clem greeted Holguin with a single to left to load the bases before Larsen went the opposite way for a grand slam into the Gauchos' bullpen in left, increasing the UW advantage to 7-0
The Gauchos (8-9) scored their first runs in the third inning when right fielder Matt Wilkerson hit a two- out, two-run homer off the light pole in right-center.
The Huskies, however, answered quickly with three more in the third. Johnson singled to drive in one run and then scored on a triple from Lillibridge, who came in when the throw to third base sailed into the UCSB dugout.
In the fourth, two more Huskies hit their first career homers in back-to-back at bats. Freshman Matt Stevens belted a two-run shot to center before JC transfer Cory Rickard followed with ane to left. Johnson homered in the four-run Husky sixth inning for the last of the UW long balls.
In the eighth, UCSB's David Figoni and Brian Lee led off the inning with back-to-back home run to cap the Gauchos' scoring.
UW sophomore starter Kyle Parker (3-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings of work. He walked two and struck out five and had a string of nine straight scoreless innings broken by Wilkerson's home run.
