Huskies Beat UCSB, 6-1, In Series Opener

SEATTLE - Sophomore Tim Lincecum took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the Washington baseball team got a three-run home run from Zach Clem and three hits from Taylor Johnson in a 6-1 win over UC Santa Barbara Friday evening at Husky Ballpark.
Lincecum (2-2), a right-hander from Liberty High, earned the win, allowing only one hit over six scoreless innings. He walked six, but struck out 11. It was the second straight win for the Husky ace, who threw a two-hit shutout to beat Texas A&M last Sunday. Senior lefty David Dowling picked up a save, throwing the final three innings.
Lincecum struck the first six UCSB batters in order before walking Matt Aidem to lead off the third inning. In the fourth, he walked three Gauchos, but used a double play and an inning-ending strikeout to get out of the jam.
UC Santa Barbara (8-7) notched its first hit when third baseman David Fagoni led off the sixth with a line-drive single to center.
The Huskies (6-7) scored their first runs in the bottom of the second. With Clem aboard at second, sophomore DH Curt Rindal chopped a double down the third-base to send in a run. Later in the second with two on and two out, Johnson, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., doubled to the gap in right-center to drive in two more, giving the UW an early 3-0 edge.
In the sixth, the UW knocked UCSB starter Steve Morlock (1-3) from the game when Clem, a junior from Burlington, Wash., belted a long three-run homer to left-center field, his second of the season and second in the last two games.
Figoni finished the night 2-for-3, accounting for two of the three UCSB hits. Pinch hitter Jack Pinkerton homered to lead off the ninth for the Gauchos' lone run. Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, a steal and two RBI for the Huskies while Clem notched two hits and scored twice.
