Postgame Quotes
HEAD COACH Lorenzo Romar On Tonight's Game
"It's good when you can address your team and not have a lot of complaints and I think that is where we were tonight. There wasn't a whole lot we can say other than to praise our guys. Once we got going we played with a lot of energy and intensity. I liked the way we shared the ball, the way that we went to the boards. I just thought that it was a very good performance overall by our team."
On OSU Head Coach John
"They know now. They weren't aware until afterwards. I mentioned it to them. I found out at half time, right after half time. It makes it a little difficult to coach after something like that. I understand that he is OK and that is great news."
On maintaining pace throughout game
"Well, as I've mentioned before it is a process. It's something that we have been working on. Tonight we did as good as job as we've done in awhile. We'll see what happens next time if we get a lead, but it has been a process. That's what it's been. It takes awhile for the medicine to kick in and hopefully that is what is happening now. We have to be consistent with it though."
On Jamaal Williams
"Obviously he scored 24 point in 17 minutes. I think at the time we were trying to get the ball inside and trying to get a couple fouls on Lucas. He got going at that point but we have seen Jamaal score before, what we were excited about with Jamaal was his effort. He gave a fantastic effort defensively on the boards, and really hustled tonight. In terms of intensity that has been his best effort this year. I think that is what we probably were mot proud about Jamaal's performance tonight."
OREGON STATE ASSISTANT COACH BRIAN LLOYD
General Comments:
"We've got to give a lot of credit to the Washington Huskies tonight, they came out and played the way they are supposed to. The number one team in the league in terms of national rank, and they came out and were ready to play. We gave it our best shot. We knew what we were up for and they were on their home court, coming off the Washington State game and just trying to get out with a positive attitude. Trying to match them blow for blow with the intensity level and energy and over a period of time they wore us down, they were on point. They shot the ball very well, they did a great job defensively. They played well on all fronts tonight.
On Oregon State:
"It's on us. We're a younger team and we're going to continue to get better. That's what we tried to do through the course of the game. Of course coming out from the second half as we were trying to fight you can't help think of our head coach Jay John and his health and if he's okay. I know that was on our guy's minds. I know it was hard to focus in the second half. We did the best we could with the situation that was in front of us. Right now the most important thing for us is how Coach John is doing right now."
On what the team saw (referring to Head Coach John):
"It was a situation where Jay could feel that something wasn't quite right and he told us before he went to the hospital that something isn't feeling quite right. He knows his own body and he said I am going to go with a physician right now to the hospital and we are going to get things checked out, you guys go out and play your tails off, play with pride, try to get yourselves back in this ballgame."
On how Coach John is doing:
"From what we've heard just recently coming off the court is that Coach John has been checked out and is in stable condition. There were some chest pains and some shortness of breath, but he seems to be in stable condition. I think they are going to keep him over night at University hospital."
On if Coach John has been ill or had symptoms:
"No, it's a stressful job, what we do is not easy. Sometimes, especially in the gut of the season, which is what we are getting into right now, we came off a couple of tough losses and anxiety runs high. We never really have control over our own health in those situations when things come over you and you get a little overwhelmed. It sounds like he is stable so it could have been some shortness of breath, some dizziness. We just hope and pray that he is okay."
