BYU Hands Huskies 7-5 Baseball Loss

SEATTLE - Brigham Young scored five runs in the top of the third inning and hung on to hand the Washington baseball team a 7-5 loss Friday at Husky Ballpark, squaring the teams at one win apiece in the three-game series.
Third baseman Han Yi and shortstop Ranger Wiens each had three hits to pace the Cougars (9-12) while Husky second baseman Greg Isaacson (Aberdeen), in only his second appearance of the year, went 3-for-4 to lead the Huskies. Third baseman Michael Done (Littleton, Colo.) added a solo homer for the Huskies, his team-leading sixth of the season.
The Huskies (9-8) suffered a blow in the second when starting pitcher Jeff Petersen (Kent/Kentwood) was hit on his pitching hand by a sharp ground ball. He managed to work his way out of that inning, but struggled with control in the third.
Petersen walked three in third and gave up a two-run single to Dave Jensen and a two-run double to Wiens before being relieved. Petersen took the loss to fall to 1-1.
BYU starter Paul Jacinto (2-0) picked up the win with six innings of work. James Ray earned a save, holding the Huskies hitless through the final three innings of the game.
The Huskies and Cougars close out the three-game series Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
