Post-game Quotes
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH BOB BENDER
General Remarks:
"We needed a win tonight and we got it. We played well for 40 minutes instead of playing well in stretches like we have been. We had great overall production from a lot of players. We won together. We needed a win confidence wise and we did it with great defense. I think this is one of those games that the stats won't reflect how the game went for us we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds. However, I thought we rebounded well. We had aggressive turnovers. The timing of the game coming up on Saturday versus Arizona will be a great test for our team. This will be an interesting 48 hours for us to see what we get coming back on Saturday night. "
On great start:
"It was a start that we had a number of things going well. We were getting stuff going to the basket, we were making good defensive stops. Who we have to be to win games was evident from the start of the game. And we sustained that effort through out the entire game. "
On inconsistencies:
"The type of losses we've had, the spurts we have played well in have lead to those six losses. I don't think our team members doubted that we could get back to playing good basketball it was just a matter of what we needed to do and then to have a good start and sustained effort. "
On fear of letting Arizona back into the game:
"I didn't see any panic when things seem to start to get away from us. I didn't sense that they might be looking over their shoulders or thinking, 'here we go again.' "
On Curtis Allen:
"He had a point guard performance tonight. His development as a player is too know and understand all parts of what a point guard has to do, and I felt that is what he did tonight. We needed his leadership and rock solid mentality tonight and he delivered."
ARIZONA STATE HEAD COACH ROB EVANS
On not being able to get over the hump:
"We didn't start we didn't get over the hump because we didn't start. We started out not playing very well, we weren't alert like we should have been. We got down and we didn't do the things you have to do to get back into the game, which is to have patience on offense and defend."
On being their own worst enemy:
"We were our own worst enemy tonight. We didn't execute, we didn't play as hard as you have to play against a team that is pretty desperate like they were."
On being fearful of the Huskies:
"I've never been fearful of anybody. But I will put it to you this way. I think they play hard, they had their backs to the wall. Any time you have a wounded animal they are going to come out fighting. They came out fighting and we didn't match their intensity."
