
UW Men's Tennis Blanks Hofstra

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
The 18th-ranked Washington men's tennis team (19-7, 3-4) defeated unranked Hofstra Saturday afternoon, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships on the campus of Harvard University.
The Huskies jumped off to a fast start as they claimed two of out three doubles matches. Playing in the No. 1 position senior duo Jeremy Berman and Andy Posavac defeated Sergey Mikeladze and Chris Conrad, 8-2. Matt Hanlin and Andrej Bizjak quickly blanked the Pride's No. 3 duo of Sergio Teixeira and Peter Harjes, 8-0. Dillon Ruby and Ari Strasberg did not finish their match.
With a 1-0 advantage, Washington went to work in singles play. Jeremy Berman, playing in the No. 3 position for the Huskies, met up with Hofstra's Teixeira and won the match, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Dillon Ruby faced Harjes in the sixth position and defeated him in two sets, 6-0, 6-1. Matt Hanlin, who is currently ranked 55th by the ITA took on Mikeladze and defeated him in two sets, 6-2, 6-0, clinching the win for the Huskies. Andrej Bizjak, Ari Strasberg, and Marius Lunde were unable to finish their matches.
Washington will face 13th-ranked Notre Dame in the regional championship game at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. The Irish dispatched host Harvard 4-0 on Saturday.
