McMorrow Earns Spot In NCAA Singles Field
Kyle McMorrow earns a spot in the NCAA singles field for the third-straight year.
Washington:
2001 All-American … vying to become UW's first-ever two-time All-American…three-year letterwinner … ranks seventh on UW's all-time list for singles wins in a career with 77 … tied for fifth place with teammate Strasberg on UW's all-time list for singles wins in a season with 27 … with his career record of 77-33, he placed eighth on the school charts for winning percentage in a career at .700… enters the 2003 season at No. 11 in the preseason ITA singles rankings.
2001-02 (Junior):
Ended the season with a No. 35 national singles ranking…earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors…played both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles…advanced to the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships but fell to No. 16 Bobby Reynolds of Vanderbilt in straight sets (6-4, 6-2)…with the match tied 3-3, earned the clinching victory to give UW the NCAA second round upset of fifth-seeded Stanford…pulled his own upset that day, defeating No. 28 David Martin, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-1…notched an upset of No. 20 Michael Kogan, 6-4, 6-4, in UW's NCAA first round win over Tulane…also paired with Dillon Ruby to pick up a doubles win in the No. 2 spot vs. Tulane…advanced to Pac-10 singles semifinal…compiled an overall singles record of 24-8, including a dual mark of 20-5…was 16-8 with Ruby in doubles action, recording the most doubles wins on the squad…won 10 singles matches over ranked opponents…won 10-straight singles matches from Feb. 3 to March 23.
2000-01 (Sophomore):
Played in the No. 1 position and posted a 19-6 dual record and a 27-12 overall record … tied for first on the team with most singles wins … posted five wins over ranked opponents … upset No. 1 ranked Oskar Johansson of Arkansas, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 … recorded a nine-match win streak (Feb. 24-March 31) … was ranked as high as 36th during the season … boasted a 3-0 mark in postseason team play … defeated Sergey Mikeladze of Hofstra, 6-2, 6-0, in first round of NCAA tournament … beat Notre Dame's Casey Smith (79), 6-2, 6-4, and UCLA's Jean-Julien Rojer (13), 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, in the NCAA's second and third rounds, respectively … advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA singles championships … defeated Rameez Junaid (57) of Auburn, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, and Erik Scharf of St. Johns's, 6-3, 6-2, in the first two rounds … earned an 18-14 overall record in doubles play … posted a 2-1 postseason record in doubles play with teammate Bizjak … earned wins over Teixeira/Harjes of Hofstra, 8-0, and Haddock/Farrell of Notre Dame, 8-2, in first and second rounds of NCAA tournament … became only the fifth Husky in history to be named All-American … garnered second team All-Pac-10 honors … earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic honors.
1999-00 (Freshman):
