UW Men's Tennis Loses to No. 1 UCLA, 1-6

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The 13th-ranked University of Washington men's tennis team was defeated by the No. 1 UCLA Bruins, 1-6, this afternoon at the LA Tennis Center. The loss gives Washington an overall record of 17-6 on the season (2-3 Pac-10), while UCLA improves to 18-1 (5-1 Pac-10). UW senior Jeremy Berman pulled out the lone victory in singles play for the Huskies.
Washington lost the doubles point in a hard-fought battle, claiming only one of three matches. Sophomores Dillon Ruby and Ari Strasberg defeated Jean-Noel Grinda and Tobias Clemens, 8-6. Playing in the No. 1 position, senior tandem Jeremy Berman and Andy Posavac were up late in the match, but could not hold on as Travis Rettenmaier and Marcin Matkowski claimed the match, 9-8(5).
In singles action, Berman defeated No. 48 Tobias Clemens in the third spot by a score of 6-2, 6-2. With the 6-4, 6-1defeat by Lassi Ketola, Ari Strasberg saw his 10-match win streak come to an end. Playing in No. 1 singles position, Matt Hanlin faced Jean-Noel Grinda and was defeated in two sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Washington will take on USC tomorrow for their final regular season road match. Play is scheduled to begin at Noon inside the Marks Stadium.
