Gonzaga Hands Baseball 10-3 Loss

SEATTLE - Gonzaga scored runs in each of its first five innings and starter Scott Stencil allowed only two runs in six innings as the Bulldogs handed the Washington baseball team a 10-3 loss Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at Husky Ballpark.
Washington, which beat Gonzaga 16-9 Tuesday night, dropped to 26-27 on the season with the loss. The loss broke the Huskies' streak of 10 straight home victories and was only their second loss in their last 14 non-conference games. Gonzaga improved to 28-24.
Stencil, a junior lefty from Everett, upped his record to 3-2 with the victory. He fanned five and allowed only five hits and two walks. UW starter Zack Daniels fell to 4-2 with the loss, allowing five earned runs in three-plus innings.
Kevin Hara belted his fourth home run of the year and Jason Bay hit his 14th for the Bulldogs, both solo home runs in the fifth inning. Hara finished the day 2-for-4 with a two RBI and Bay went 3-for-5 with three batted in.
Husky freshman DH Jay Garthwaite went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI for Washington. Center fielder Ben Miller doubled twice and scored a run in three at bats.
This weekend, 18th-ranked USC comes to Seattle for the first time since 1971 to play a three-game series at Husky Ballpark. The three-game series will mark the end of the 2000 season for the Dawgs.
