SEATTLE - First baseman Ed Erickson went 2-for-4 with a homer, a triple and four runs batted in to lead the Washington baseball team to a 6-4 win over San Francisco in a non-conference game Wednesday at Husky Ballpark.
Erickson, a senior from Yakima, Wash., tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth with a solo home run, his sixth of the year. In the seventh, after a bases-loaded walk to Tila Reynolds had made it 3-2, Erickson belted the first triple of his four-year Husky career to send home three more.
Washington, which swept the two-game series from USF, improved to 16-20 overall while the Dons slipped to 24-18.
Sophomore lefty Zack Daniels (2-1) picked up the win with the longest outing of his career. He went eight innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs. USF's Jason Martina (2-1), who gave up the walk to Reynolds and Erickson's triple, took the loss.
The Dons rallied in the ninth. With two out, UW reliever Brian Barton loaded the bases on two singles and a walk when Dons All-America Tag Bozied stepped up. Bozied, who led the nation in home runs and slugging last season, was hit by a pitch to drive in a run, but Barton fanned Danny Trumble to end the game and earn his first career save.
Trumble hit a solo home run in the eighth for USF. Dons shortstop Tony Hurtado tied the school record for career hits with two singles on the day. He now has 236. Other than Erickson, Matt Hollod was the only Husky with two hits as he singled twice.
Washington travels to face Wichita State in a three-game, non-league series this weekend. All three games (Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at noon and Sunday at 11 a.m.) will air live on KKOL AM-1300.
