LOS ANGELES - The 11th-ranked USC women's soccer team scored twice inside the first 12 minutes Friday, including Megan Orach's goal two minutes into a 2-1 victory over Washington at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Washington lost its first Pacific-10 Conference game, falling to 1-1 with a 4-7 overall mark. Four UW losses came against teams currently ranked in the national top-20. The Trojans remained undefeated in conference play, improving to 3-0 with a 10-3 overall record.
The Huskies have lost their last two meetings with USC, including a 2-1 overtime setback last year in Los Angeles during the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Orach's opening goal was set up by a Washington foul at the top of the penalty box. Andrea Warner slid a pass across the field and Orach blasted a 25-yard shot into the net in the second minute of play.
The Trojans struck again quickly, netting what proved to be the decisive goal during the 11th minute. Christy Callier headed in a cross from Isabelle Harvey, a member of the Canadian World Cup team.
Washington's lone goal was scored in the 88th minute by sophomore Caroline Putz. Junior Theresa Wagner fed a pass to Putz who finished from 15 yards out.
Freshman goalkeeper Hope Solo registered 10 saves for the Huskies who were outshot 20-8. Lauren Arase was credited with two saves for the Trojans.
Washington concludes its two-game road trip on Sunday against 12th-ranked UCLA.
