Steve Astor served as the Husky Volunteer Assistant Coach during the 2019 season. He was part of a Washington squad that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships, going 27-7 overall and finishing second in the Pac-12 at 15-5. The Huskies finished sixth in the final AVCA poll in 2019.
Astor has been coaching volleyball since 2006 and also coached football and basketball before shifting to volleyball, giving him over twenty years of coaching experience.
His previous stop before Seattle was as a volunteer assistant coach for the UC Irvine men's volleyball program, which finished the 2019 season ranked No. 8 in the NCAA and produced a pair of All-Americans.
Astor was the head varsity girl's coach at one of the top schools in California, Corona del Mar, for six seasons from 2013-18, during which Corona del Mar won the league title every season. He was also the head boy's varsity coach at Newport Harbor High School from 2011-13 and an Associate Head Coach for boys and girls at Laguna Beach High School from 2006-12. The Laguna Beach boys won the 2010 CIF state title with Astor as interim Head Coach.
At the club level, Astor coached for the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club from 2011 to 2018, leading his 17-1 squad to a pair of silver medal finishes at U.S. Junior Nationals in 2012 and 2014. He also served as an assistant men's coach for Orange Coast College from 2008-11, helping the team earn state runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009, and semifinal finishes in 2010 and 2011.
More than 150 junior players coached by Astor have gone on to play volleyball at the collegiate level.
Astor graduated Cum Laude from Vanguard University in 2012 and went on to earn a teaching credential in Mathematics from National University in 2018. Astor taught math at Hewes Middle School in 2018-19. A native of Tustin, California, he played volleyball for Foothill High School in Tustin.
