Mike Hopkins promoted Ben Lee to Assistant Coach and Director of Recruiting for the 2023-24 season after Lee served as the Director of Basketball Operations in 2022-23.
As Director of Basketball Operations, Lee managed the men’s basketball budget and played an integral part in transfer portal evaluations and opponent scouting. He supervised the video coordinator, graduate assistants and student managers and also managed recruiting visits. Lee collaborated with the marketing team and was in charge of scheduling home and away practices as well as all team travel. He helped oversee the team’s academic performance and was named Academic Coach of the Quarter in Autumn of 2022.
Lee was a graduate assistant under Coach Hopkins during the 2019-2020 season while earning his Master’s in Education from the Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership Program. During his time as a graduate assistant, Lee worked on worked on player training and development, opponent scouting, program operations and post-game statistical analysis. He worked with Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels, who were selected in the first round of the NBA Draft following their freshman seasons at UW.
Prior to returning to Washington, Lee was the Director of Marquee Hoops and Vice President of Events for MADE Hoops, industry leaders in grassroots basketball. 83 of the top 100 players in ESPN’s 2023 Recruiting Rankings are MADE Hoops Alumni.
Lee was a point guard at Union College (N.Y.) from 2015-2019 and was part of the first team in school history to win back-to-back league championships. He was a team captain and received the Paul Rieschick award for “exemplifying the team concept through desire, attitude, and loyalty to the program.” He earned a bachelor's degree in economics.
He resides in Seattle with his wife, Liana.
