Year Elected to Husky Hall of Fame: 1999
The most decorated football player in Husky history, having won two national, individual awards in 1991: the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Trophy. Emtman, who was the key member of the dominant defense that led the 1991 Huskies to the national championship, was also the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-America selection that season. He anchored a defense that allowd just 67.1 rushing yards and 9.2 points per game in 1991. He was a part of two Pac-10 and Rose Bowl championship teams (and was the winner of the Pac-10's Morris Trophy (top defensive lineman) as both a sophomore and a junior) before opting to leave for the NFL following his junior year. The following spring, the Indianapolis Colts selected him with the No. 1 overall selection in the 1992 NFL Draft, the only Husky ever to hold that distinction.
Injuries plagued Emtman's NFL career, but he did play parts of six seasons for the the Colts, Dolphins and Redskins. Following his professional career, he spent time as a UW strength & conditioning coach before going into business. A graduate of Cheney (Wash.) High School, Emtman is a member of both the Husky Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.
