Freshman Celia Short here, reporting current events of the Gym Dawgs! As a freshman, I know little about college life and college gymnastics other than what I have read in articles and through questions, but I have been here a couple of months now and I am absolutely loving it.
This week in the Husky Gym, incredible things have been happening:
Vault has been booming, with most everyone taking it up a notch, whether that be twisting or just getting off that table a bit faster and stronger. Over on the bars, routines are being wiped out months before they had been in previous years, and with amplitude and form. Taking a step off bars, we come to floor, where again the full routines are being hammered out and looking pretty good, too. Then last but not least, we venture over to the beams, where not only are the routines being hit over and over, the team is also working together to get the assignments done -- that can sometimes be really difficult, but they just keep cranking away at it.
Also, I must mention a few superstars on the team this week:
Natalie Gillan really shined on floor this week, with some powerful tumbling and really hitting her routines. Jenni Chang and her Shaposhnikova -- it gets better and better everyday. Nikki Waiss on bars -- hitting her routines like they were nothing, over and over. Bonita Lee on floor -- she did some big new tumbling she didn't know she could do.
Then lastly we have Tori Quandt and Darcee Schiller, who both showed incredible leadership this week though their hard work and consistency. Although I didn't name everyone, we all have been superstars in one way or another, and I know that we will continue to do so -- that is what will carry this team through the season with grace. So good work everyone!
And thanks for making my freshman experience a great one so far with all your support and energy.
This is freshman Celia Short, signing off!
