Women's Golfers Ranked No. 13

This Week: The 13th-ranked Huskies makes their longest trip east this season, traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina for the 1999 Bryan National Collegiate. The field includes: Colorado, Kentucky, Furman, Memphis,North Carolina, North Carolina-Greensboro, New Mexico State, Ohio State, Penn State, host-school Wake Forest and the Swedish National Team. Washington enters the tournament as the highest ranked team. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Bryan Park Golf Course. Kelli Kamimura, Paola Bellotti, Andrea Cordova, Jen Stapleton and Elisha Au will play one-to-five, respectively, for the Huskies.
The Rankings: Washington enters the tournament with its highest-ever ranking. UW ranks 13th in the Golfweek Sagarin College Rankings and the MasterCard Collegiate Rankings. UW holds the 15th spot in the Golfstat Rankings. New Mexico State and Ohio State each enter the tournament ranked in the top-25. Individually, Kelli Kamimura ranks fifth in the Golfstat Cup rankings, seventh in the Sagarin Rankings and 14th in the MasterCard Rankings. She is the top-rated player in the tournament. Elisha Au owns the No. 36 spot in the MasterCard Rankings.
Last Time Out: Kelli Kamimura defeated Pepperdines Tamie Durdin in a two-hole playoff for the indiviudual title, leading UW to a second-place finish behind Pepperdine. Kamimura fired a 142 in the 36-hole tournament. Washington matched a season-low with a 292 on the first-day of play followed by a 300 on the second. Pepperdine edged UW by five strokes with a 587 for the tournament. Senior Paola Bellotti was rewarded with a fifth-place finish after carding 147.
Coach Mulflur: Now in her 16th season at the helm of Washingtons womens golf program, Mary Lou Mulflur has led the Huskies to national prominence. A member of the Pac-10 conference, golfs toughest loop, Mulflur has directed the Huskies to the NCAA Championships in three of the past four years. This season, she led the Huskies to the tournament championship at the Northwest Invitational and has been in the top-three at two others.
Next Time: Washington has only two more tournaments before the Pac-10 Championships. UW will make the familiar trek to Tempe, Ariz., for the annual ASU Invitational. UW finished 10th at the tournament last year.
