Huskies Head South to Face LMU and SDSU

THIS WEEK: Washington (5-2) is on the road again. The Huskies travel to southern California to face Loyola Marymount on Friday, Feb. 19, at 2pm. The next day Washington travels farther south to match-up against No.25 San Diego State on Saturday, Feb.20, at noon and then No.33 San Diego on Sunday, Feb.21. The Huskies are ranked 42nd in the latest ITA poll.
Scoping the Competition: Loyola Marymount (4-2) is entering this week on a two-game win streak over Westmount and Cal State Northridge. Leading the Lion pack is senior Laura Gross, who holds 3-3 season record in the No.1 singles slot. Washington holds a 2-0 all-time series record against the Lions.
San Diego State's roster boasts several ranked players. Dorota Wozniak is currently ranked No.81 and Maggie Cole is No.98. To form San Diego State's No.1 doubles team, Cole teams with Donovan to make up the 30th-ranked doubles team in the nation. San Diego State also boasts an all-time series record of 3-0 against the Huskies.
San Diego (2-4) boasts the No.1 ranked player in the country, Zuzana Lesenarova. Lesenarova plays the No.1 singles position and owns a 17-4 overall record for this season. San Diego has a 12-2 all-time series record against Washington.
Last Week's Action: Last week Washington improved its season record to 5-2 with wins over two ranked opponents. On Friday, Feb. 12, the Huskies upset No.29 New Mexico 8-1 in the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Washington then dominated cross-state rival Washington State 8-1 on Saturday, Feb.14.
Washington Wonder: The Huskies are led by sophomore Kristina Kraszewski (14-5) who is currently ranked 16th in the nation. Two weeks ago, Kraszeski advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship in Dallas, Texas. She defeated two ranked players, No.23 Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame and No.5 Anousjka Van Excel of Tulsa, before falling to Stanford's Teryn Ashley 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Last Year With Washington: Under the mentorship of first-year coach Patty Fendick McCain, the 1997-98 Washington women's tennis team posted the highest team ranking in the program's history and advanced to the NCAA West Regional tournament for the second straight year. By the end of the season, the squad had achieved a ranking of No.56 in the nation and No.3 in the Northwest, the program's first-ever All-American in Kristina Kraszewski, two players ranked among the country's top 85, and a 12-8 overall record.
NEXT MATCH: Washington resumes tennis action in two weeks. The Huskies will play host to Oregon on Sunday, Mar. 7, at noon. All matches will be played in the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
