UW Wins All Heats At Rescheduled First Day At Big Ten Championships
May 15, 2026 | Women's Rowing
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 4-ranked Washington women's rowing team won all seven of its heats Friday night on the first day of the 2026 Big Ten Rowing Championships. On Sunday, all seven of those crews will race at the Indianapolis Rowing Center to defend their titles from last year.
The heats were moved from Saturday morning to Friday afternoon due to poor weather forecasts for Saturday. Sunday's finals schedule (below) remains the unchanged.
Last year, Washington became just the second program to sweep all seven finals at a Big Ten Championships. This year, the Huskies earned the top seed in all seven race categories entering Friday's heats.
The Huskies lived up to that seeding, winning each heat (first, second, third; and fourth varsity eights; first, second, and third varsity fours) comfortably.
In the eights races, Washington won all of its heats by open water. The closest finish came in the third varsity eight, where Washington beat second-place UCLA by about 4.7 seconds and two or three seats of open water. The varsity eight won its race in 6:50.141, 8.3 seconds in front of the Bruins, while UW's second and fourth eights each won by more than 13 seconds.
The Huskies four races went similarly, with open-water victories in all three, despite some good early challenges. Ohio State's first varsity four finished the closest second to the Dawgs, just under seven seconds behind.
Rutgers, the second or third seed in every race category, won all of its heats. UW and Rutgers, obviously, did not see one another during Friday's heats.
Here's the Sunday race schedule:

6:38 a.m. PT / 9:38 a.m. ET – III Eights Grand Final
