
Rhoads Captures Big Ten Weekly Honors

SEATTLE – The record-setting and award-collecting senior season for Jimmy Rhoads continues as the Husky pole vaulter was named the Big Ten Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Rhoads won the Texas Relays title on Saturday in Austin and set the UW outdoor School Record.
Rhoads, in his first year at UW after four years at Penn, has hit new heights indoors and now outdoors. He set the UW indoor record with a make of 19-1 and went on to take third at the NCAA Indoor Championships last month. He was twice named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week indoors.
Saturday, Rhoads cleared 18-10 1/4 to break the mark of 18-9 1/2 set last year by Scott Toney. Rhoads now ranks No. 2 in the NCAA early in the outdoor season.
The Huskies will be off this weekend before a big week at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational from Apr. 15-18.
