
Dawgs Win Game One At Iowa 16-7

IOWA CITY, Iowa โ The No. 16 Washington softball team (28-6, 10-0 Big Ten) came back from behind on Friday night to defeat Iowa 16-7 at Hawkeye Softball Complex.
The Huskies improve to 10-0 in conference play and extend their winning streak to 18 games.
Morgan Reimer improved to 18-1 on the season with the win tonight, pitching 6.1 innings with Ryan Maddox recording the final two outs.
The Hawkeyes scored on an RBI single in the first inning to get on the board first. A double stolen base resulted in the second Hawkeye run, then an RBI double put the home team up 3-0 at the end of the second.
Jade Bubke recorded her second home run of the season on the very first pitch of the inning to put the first Husky run on the board.

Jadyn Glab returned to her home state of Iowa with a bang, blasting a three-run homer to turn the game around and put the Dawgs up 4-3.
Iowa returned the favor with a home run of its own in the bottom of the third, tying the game 4-4.

The Huskies went off for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning, but even more impressively, those seven runs came on just one hit.
To start the explosive inning, Sophi Mazzola got hit by a pitch, Bubke drew a walk, then Kaycie Burdick recorded the lone hit of the inning to load the bases. Alexis DeBoer drew a walk and a run walked in for the Huskies. Giselle Alvarez notched a sacrifice fly to bring in another run. A Hawkeye wild pitch allowed another Husky run to score. Ava Carroll reached on a throwing error that helped three more runs score. Then, to cap off the inning, Melody Acevedo recorded a sacrifice fly to bring in Carroll and extend Washington's lead to 11-3.
Iowa scored another run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 11-4, then the Huskies went on to score five in the seventh.
Alvarez slashed a two-run homer, her third home run in the last two outings, then Carroll blasted the fourth home run of the day to score three more for Washington.

The Hawkeyes scored two more in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Huskies rolled to the 16-7 victory in the opening game of the series.
