No. 1 Texas Prevails Over No. 25 Washington
February 07, 2026 | Softball
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 25 softball team took a one-run lead at the top of the sixth, but the top-ranked Longhorns scored six in the bottom of the inning to put it away as the Huskies fell 6-11 to the defending national champions.
Morgan Reimer got the start in the circle on Saturday for Washington's third game of the UTSA Invitational.
The Longhorns attacked first, courtesy of a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, which the Huskies quickly counteracted in the top of the next inning.
Giselle Alvarez smacked a single down the middle on the first pitch to get on base. Jade Bubke followed with a single of her own on the second pitch of the at-bat and Sophi Mazzola got hit by a pitch to load the bases. A Texas passed ball brought in two runs to even the score 2-2.
Texas scored three more in the fourth before the Huskies once again evened things out with three of their own in the top of the fifth thanks to an Alvarez home run that brought in Ava Carroll and Jing Gardner.
Another passed ball gave Washington its first lead, 6-5, as Gabi Toney scored her first run of the afternoon.
The Longhorns came alive in the bottom of the sixth, ushering in six runs to put it away as the Huskies couldn't capitalize in the final inning.
Washington returns for the final two games of the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Dawgs will get another crack at No. 9 Nebraska and No. 1 Texas – both games available on ESPN+.
