Huskies Open Up 2026 Season In San Antonio AT UTSA Invitational

SEATTLE – No. 25 Washington softball kicks off the 2026 season at the UTSA Invitational down in San Antonio, Texas this Friday, Feb. 6. The season begins with four Top-25 matchups in the first weekend of play, with a pair of games against No. 9 Nebraska and a pair against the defending national champion top-ranked Texas Longhorns.

PRESEASON HYPE
Alexis DeBoer, Jadyn Glab and Morgan Reimer were all named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List.
Alexis DeBoer was also named to USA Softball's Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, as well as a D1 Softball and Softball America Preseason Second Team All-American. She was named in the Top-40 overall player rankings and Top-5 by position by both organizations.
Jadyn Glab was ranked as D1 Softball's 94th overall player in its Top-100, as well as a Top-10 catcher by both D1 and Softball America.
The freshmen trio of Marley Teasley, Mila Reddy and Melody Acevedo were all named to Softball America's Big Ten Preseason Freshman Watch List. Acevedo was also one of 100 freshmen named to D1 Softball's Preseason Freshman Watch List.

Washington is ranked in the Top-25 in three of the four preseason polls. The Huskies are slotted at No. 22 in both the D1 Softball and Softball America preseason polls and No. 25 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com preseason poll.
DEBUT MOMENTS
Ten Huskies will make their debuts during opening weekend and as we kick off 2026 – sophomore transfer Ryan Maddox and freshmen Melody Acevedo, Kaycie Burdick, Mila Reddy, Marley Teasley, Amira Rodriguez, Allie Thomsen, Ally Hetzel, Zuri Patterson and Grazia Mazzola.
STARTING OFF STRONG – OPENING WEEKEND
Dating back to 2014, the Huskies are 52-11 during opening weekend. In 2025, Washington went 2-3 at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz. In 2024, UW went 3-1 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone coming against the Oklahoma Sooners in extra innings. In 2023, UW also went 3-1 with their lone loss coming against the Sooners, 4-5.
Prior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend (2022, 2021, & 2020).
SCHEDULE STRENGTH
Washington has a tough schedule ahead with eight teams in ESPN's preseason poll. In opening weekend alone, the Huskies face two Top-10 teams in Texas (No. 1) and Nebraska (No. 9).
ROAD TRIPPIN'
The Huskies start off 2026 with four straight weekends on the road. Washington opens the season at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio (Feb. 6-8). Then, UW has a three-game series at Fresno State with single games against San Jose State and Santa Clara. In the third week, the Dawgs will compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs against South Carolina, Saint Mary's, Auburn, BYU, Oklahoma and LMU (Feb. 19-22). For the fourth week of the season (and third straight weekend in California), the Huskies will compete in San Diego, including two games against San Diego State, two vs. Cal Poly and one vs. CSUN.
HOME AT LAST
After four straight weekends on the road to start the season, the Huskies will finally welcome fans to Husky Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 3 with a midweek matchup against Seattle U. Washington's second Big Ten push begins with a home series vs. Northwestern on Friday, March 6.

Since 2018, the Huskies have posted a 109-27 record at Husky Softball Stadium, including a 17-3 record in 2023 and 11-4 in 2024.
Washington finished the 2025 season 8-4 at home and was third in the Big Ten in average attendance in those 12 home games at Husky Softball Stadium (1,460) behind Nebraska (2,306) and Oregon (2,100). The Huskies were No. 17 in the nation in average attendance in 2025.
NEW YEAR, SAME B1G THINGS
The 2026 season marks the second for Washington as a member of the Big Ten Conference. On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon.
The Dawgs concluded their inaugural season in the B1G with a 12-9 record and a 7th place finish. Washington lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in 2025 to Indiana, 0-2.
SCOUTING THE HUSKERS
Nebraska opens the 2026 season after concluding 2025 with a 43-15 overall record (17-5 in the Big Ten). The Huskers made it to Super Regionals in 2025, Nebraska's first berth since 2014. In the Super Regionals, the Huskers fell to No. 7 Tennessee. It was the 8th Top-10 finish in program history, ending the season tied for 9th.
ALL-TIME VS. NEBRASKA
Washington is 15-6 overall against Nebraska and has won six of the last eight matchups -- both losses coming during the 2025 season. Last season against the Huskers, Washington went 1-2 against No. 18 Nebraska at Husky Softball Stadium.
SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
UTSA finished the 2025 season 21-34, including a 6-21 American Conference finish. The Roadrunners finished 9th of 10 teams in conference play in 2025.

The defending national champion Texas Longhorns concluded the 2025 season 56-12 en route the program's first ever national title. Texas was the second-lowest seed (6th) to ever win an NCAA Division I Softball National Championship. Texas also became the first SEC softball program to win a national championship since Florida won back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
