Softball Set For California School Slate This Weekend

SEATTLE – The No. 24 Husky softball team (2-3, 0-0 Big Ten) has another five-game slate ahead this weekend, as Washington will face Fresno State, San Jose State and Santa Clara.
UW will play a three-game series on Friday and Saturday at Fresno State and two games as part of the Silicon Valley Classic at San Jose State and Santa Clara.

PRESEASON HYPE
Alexis DeBoer, Jadyn Glab and Morgan Reimer were all named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List.
Alexis DeBoer was also named to USA Softball's Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, as well as a D1 Softball and Softball America Preseason Second Team All-American. She was named in the Top-40 overall player rankings and Top-5 by position by both organizations.
Jadyn Glab was ranked as D1 Softball's 94th overall player in its Top-100, as well as a Top-10 catcher by both D1 and Softball America.
The freshmen trio of Marley Teasley, Mila Reddy and Melody Acevedo were all named to Softball America's Big Ten Preseason Freshman Watch List. Acevedo was also one of 100 freshmen named to D1 Softball's Preseason Freshman Watch List.
PRESEASON POLLS
Washington was ranked in the Top-25 in three of the four preseason polls. The Huskies are slotted at No. 22 in both the D1 Softball and Softball America preseason polls and No. 25 in the USA Softball/ESPN.com preseason poll.
WEEK ONE ATTENTION
After opening weekend, UW is ranked at No. 24 in ESPN's Top-25, No. 21 in D1Softball and No. 24 in Softball America's poll.
DEBUT MOMENTS
Eight Huskies made their debuts during opening weekend at UTSA – sophomore transfer Ryan Maddox and freshmen Kaycie Burdick, Mila Reddy, Marley Teasley, Amira Rodriguez, Allie Thomsen, Ally Hetzel and Zuri Patterson.
Ally Hetzel recorded her first career home run, a three-run homer in UW's 17-0 win over UTSA, as well as three RBI last weekend.
Teasley played and started in all five games, batting .333 with four hits on the weekend.
Burdick saw action in four games and got one start, registering two hits and four RBI on the weekend. Reddy scored a run and saw action in three games.
Ryan Maddox, Amira Rodriguez and Allie Thomsen all saw action in the circle during opening weekend.
Maddox pitched an inning against UTSA and 2.1 innings in Washington's loss to No. 1 Texas (Feb. 7).
Rodriguez, Maddox and Thomsen each pitched in the Huskies' second matchup with Texas.
WALK OFF WINNERS
During opening weekend in San Antonio, the Huskies earned their first Top-10 win of the season, thanks to a walk-off single from Jadyn Glab to win it 3-2 over No. 9 Nebraska.
This was Washington's first Top-10 win since defeating No. 8 Oregon 4-3 on March 16, 2025.
OPENING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS
Washington went 2-3 at the UTSA Invitational, picking up a 17-0 win over UTSA and a walk-off 3-2 win over No. 9 Nebraska. The Huskies lost their opening game to the Huskers 5-8 and dropped both to top-ranked Texas by scores of 6-11 and 0-5.
Alexis DeBoer hit a .462 average in the opening five games of the season, while also recording a 1.231 slugging percentage and .611 on-base percentage. She scored three home runs and 4 RBI while notching a perfect fielding percentage at first base.
Ava Carroll had a strong opening weekend for Washington as well, batting .438 with five runs and seven hits in a team-high 16 at-bats.
Giselle Alvarez hit .267 opening weekend, registering five runs, four hits and five RBI while playing primarily at third base for the Huskies.
Gabi Toney hit two dingers in the opening game of the season against No. 9 Nebraska, her second and third career home runs. On the weekend, Toney played in all five games and started in four, scoring four runs and four RBI.
STARTING OFF STRONG – OPENING WEEKEND
Dating back to 2014, the Huskies are 52-11 during opening weekend. In 2025, Washington went 2-3 at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz. In 2024, UW went 3-1 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone coming against the Oklahoma Sooners in extra innings. In 2023, UW also went 3-1 with their lone loss coming against the Sooners, 4-5.
Prior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend (2022, 2021, & 2020).
SCHEDULE STRENGTH
Washington has a tough schedule ahead with eight teams in ESPN's preseason poll. In opening weekend alone, the Huskies faced two Top-10 teams in Texas (No. 1) and Nebraska (No. 9).
ROAD TRIPPIN'
The Huskies start off 2026 with four straight weekends on the road. Washington opened the season at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio (Feb. 6-8). UW then has a three-game series at Fresno State with single games against San Jose State and Santa Clara. In the third week, the Dawgs will compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs against South Carolina, Saint Mary's, Auburn, BYU, Oklahoma and LMU (Feb. 19-22). For the fourth week of the season (and third straight weekend in California), the Huskies will compete in San Diego, including two games against San Diego State, two vs. Cal Poly and one vs. CSUN.
HOME AT LAST
After four straight weekends on the road to start the season, the Huskies will finally welcome fans to Husky Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 3 with a midweek matchup against Seattle U. Washington's second Big Ten push begins with a home series vs. Northwestern on Friday, March 6.

Since 2018, the Huskies have posted a 109-27 record at Husky Softball Stadium, including a 17-3 record in 2023 and 11-4 in 2024.
Washington finished the 2025 season 8-4 at home and was third in the Big Ten in average attendance in those 12 home games at Husky Softball Stadium (1,460) behind Nebraska (2,306) and Oregon (2,100). The Huskies were No. 17 in the nation in average attendance in 2025.
NEW YEAR, SAME B1G THINGS
The 2026 season marks the second for Washington as a member of the Big Ten Conference. On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon.
The Dawgs concluded their inaugural season in the B1G with a 12-9 record and a 7th place finish. Washington lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in 2025 to Indiana, 0-2.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State is 3-1 on the season, as the Bulldogs opened 2026 hosting the Fresno State Kickoff Classic. The Bulldogs won their first three games of the season – a win over SIUE in the season opener and back-to-back victories over Idaho State – before falling in the tournament finale to SIUE 4-5.
The Bulldogs went 37-20 in 2025 and 15-7 in the Mountain West. Fresno State finished the 2025 season with a runner-up finish in the Mountain West Championship, falling in a doubleheader to San Diego State.
ALL-TIME VS. FRESNO STATE
The Dawgs are 14-9 against Fresno State, winning the last four matchups and eight of the last 10. Last season, the Huskies beat Fresno State 6-4 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and before that had not faced the Bulldogs since 2020.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans are 1-4 in 2026 as they opened play at the Stanford Invitational. San Jose State played three ranked games in their first five outings – a 0-9 loss to No. 20 Oklahoma State, a 3-7 loss and a 4-16 loss to No. 17 Stanford.
The Spartans went 22-28 last season and 9-14 in Mountain West play. They lost 0-2 to Fresno State in the opening round of the Mountain West tournament.
ALL-TIME VS. SAN JOSE STATE
The Huskies are 7-0 against San Jose State all-time and have scored 9+ runs in six of the seven matchups. The most recent UW win came in a 10-0 advantage on Feb. 10, 2023.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
The Broncos are 3-2 on the season after opening the year the GCU Kickoff Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. Santa Clara won its first three games, one against Southern Utah and two back-to-back wins over Weber State, before dropping both games to Grand Canyon.
The Broncos finished the 2025 season 32-22 and 11-4 in WCC play – the best season in Bronco softball history. The defending WCC softball champions were picked to finish first in the conference preseason poll.
ALL-TIME VS. SANTA CLARA
The Huskies are 18-0 all-time against Santa Clara, with the most recent matchup being on March 6, 2020 – a 19-0 UW victory.
