
UW Gymnastics Opens 2026 Season in Quad Meet Action

SEATTLE – The Washington gymnastics team kicked off the 2026 season at the Best of the West UW Quad Meet in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Alaska Airlines Arena.
For the first time in program history, the GymDawgs sold out the arena, with 8,403 fans in attendance. This total set a new program attendance record and represented the highest attendance at a home-opening meet since 2004. The Washington gymnastics program is incredibly grateful for its fans and the unwavering support of Husky Nation.
In Jessa Hansen Parker's second season as head coach, the GymDawgs posted a score of 195.625, finishing in third overall. UCLA won the meet with a 196.975, followed by California with a 196.000 while Oregon State finished with a 195.550.
Washington opened on vault, scoring a 48.675. Junior Mary McDonough led the lineup with a 9.775. She was followed by freshman Jessica Schaffer, junior Kira Bolden, junior Kristin Lin and senior Lilly Tubbs, who each posted scores of 9.725. Schaffer made her first appearance in the vault lineup. Caitlin McWilliams rounded out the rotation with a score of 9.625.
The GymDawgs moved to bars in the second rotation, posting a team score of 48.725. Graduate student Deiah Moody led the group with a 9.825, while Mary McDonough followed with a 9.775. Seniors Caitlin McWilliams and Olivia Oppegard also contributed to the rotation, each earning a 9.725.
The balance beam was the Huskies' strongest event of the meet, as they posted a team score of 49.275, the second-highest beam total under head coach Jessa Hansen Parker. Beam specialist Chelsea Hallinan led the way with a standout 9.900, matching her career high. Lilly Tubbs followed with a 9.875, marking her first official beam score since participating only in exhibitions in previous years. Graduate student Lana Novarro earned a 9.850, while Deiah Moody, Kristin Lin, and Olivia Oppegard each recorded scores of 9.825, with Lin's score representing a career high on beam.
Washington concluded the meet on floor, earning a team score of 48.950. Freshman Haley Fichiera made her collegiate debut and tied for the team-leading score with a 9.825, along with Caitlin McWilliams. Kira Bolden and Kristin Lin each followed with scores of 9.775, while Jessica Schaffer made her floor debut and posted a 9.750.

The GymDawgs will travel to Tucson to face No. 18 Arizona on Friday, January 9, at 5:00 p.m. MST. Washington will then return home to Alaska Airlines Arena to host Rutgers on Friday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m PST.
