Buck, Suliafu Earn Big Ten Player Of The Week Honors
September 16, 2025 | Women's Soccer
ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading Washington to a 1-0 clean sheet victory at No. 15 USC on Thursday, UW's Alex Buck and Kolo Suliafu have received Big Ten Player of the Week honors, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
It is the first career weekly award nod for either player, with Buck reeling in Offensive Player of the Week laurels and Suliafu being named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
The victory in Los Angeles was the first win over USC for Washington since 2019 as well as the first ranked road win for the Huskies since that same match when UW defeated the then-No. 7 ranked Trojans 2-0.
Buck provided the first half breakthrough in the 29th minute. The former high school track star turned on the jets to dart past the Trojan back line, running onto Samiah Shell's through ball, touching past the charging USC keeper and cooly slotting the ball into the vacant net to put the Huskies up 1-0.
From there, Suliafu and a staunch Dawg defensive effort did the rest. Led by the Husky captain and star centerback, Washington held the Trojans to just six shots all match long, tied for a season-low for USC.
Behind Buck and Suliafu, Washington became the second team this season to hold the star studded Trojan offense scoreless in 2025, locking up the Huskies' fourth clean sheet of the season.
