David-Smith Wins Gold At World University Games
July 26, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – A native of Issaquah, Wash. but with French citizenship, Husky senior Julia David-Smith ran the best 5,000-meters of her career today to capture the Gold Medal for France at the FISU World University Games in Bochum, Germany. David-Smith was coming off a fourth-place finish at the European U23 Championships a week ago in Norway, but today she reached the podium, all the way up top.
It's continues a fabulous track season for the rising senior David-Smith, who made her first NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5k back in June, then continued to roll in several races in Europe, setting a big 1500m PR of 4:10.03 in Ireland and running what was at the time a 5,000m PR of 15:39.97 at a meet in France.
Today, David-Smith had a powerful final lap sprint to cut another five seconds off her PR and win in a time of 15:34.57, moving her up to No. 6 in school history.
It also continues a great week for Maurica Powell's women's distance crew at the World University Games. Chloe Foerster was seventh in the 800-meter final on Thursday, running 2:01.58, the second-fastest time of her career. Tomorrow, Amina Maatoug and Maggie Liebich will both be in the final of the 1,500-meters, which goes off in the early morning hours in Seattle, at 3 a.m.
