Washington Signs Florida State Transfer Christian Nitu

SEATTLE – Washington head men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle has announced the Huskies' sixth addition from the transfer portal, signing Florida State forward Christian Nitu.
Nitu joins previous UW transfer additions Lathan Summerville, Quimari Peterson, Jacob Ognacevic, Wesley Yates and Bryson Tucker.
"Christian is a talented, long athlete who is just scratching the surface of how good he can," Sprinkle said. "He is another player from the portal who has been coached very well. Coach Hamilton at Florida State and his staff are tremendous evaluators and developers, and they spoke very highly of Christian. He's a legit 6-10 or 6-11 and very athletic, skilled and long. He will play multiple positions for us, and I think ultimately could be an elite defender as he can guard all five positions. He will be a great fit for our program moving forward."
Nitu will make the move to Montlake following one season at FSU, appearing in 22 games this past season and shooting 40.9 percent from the floor.
Playing a reserve role much of the season, Nitu came on strong down the stretch, averaging 17 minutes of action in the Seminoles' final two games at Duke and Virginia. The Ontario, Canada, native pulled down four rebounds in 16 minutes at Cameron Indoor before posting a season-high eight points on 4-of-4 shooting against the Cavaliers, adding three boards.
Nitu signed with Florida State out of Fort Erie International Academy, where he was a three star prospect via 247Sports and On3. Nitu was one of four Fort Erie players to be selected to play in the BioSteel All-Canadian All-Star Game in 2023.
Before moving to Fort Erie, Nitu played the 2021-22 season at Royal Crown Academy, leading the school to the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association Championship with a perfect 14-0 record.
