Dawgs Dig Deep In Laguna Beach Showdowns
April 05, 2025 | Beach Volleyball
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. -- No. 19 Washington faced a tough slate Saturday at Laguna Main Beach, taking on two top-10 opponents in No. 6 Stanford and No. 7 UCLA. Despite several competitive sets, the Beach Dawgs dropped both duals by a score of 5-0.
In the opening match against Stanford, Washington challenged the Cardinal early but couldn't hold off the momentum. Teila Allen and Jade Sadeiko kept things close on the top court, falling 21-19 in the first set before Stanford pulled away in the second. The No. 3 pair of Brooke Balue and Niki Egan also pushed their opponents in a 21-19 first set before dropping the second, 21-12.
Later in the afternoon, the Dawgs returned to the sand to take on UCLA. Once again, Allen and Sadeiko put up a strong showing at No. 1, narrowly falling 21-19 in both sets. The No. 5 pair of Hannah Doyle and Alina Urzua battled through a gritty opening set, falling 28-30, before bouncing back with a 21-17 win in the second to force a decisive third. The two Huskies ultimately came up just short, 12-15 in the third.
