Dawgs Take Fifth Straight Win Over Northwestern
April 18, 2025 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE - The Huskies came out on top today in their second to last match of the regular season. No. 70 Northwestern went down in a 4-0 sweep.
The Dawgs came out strong and won two out of the three doubles matches. Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn won their match 6-1. Brett Pearson and Rohan Belday also showed out, taking their match 6-3.
With three wins needed to clinch the match in the singles round, Washington didn't waste any time. Soham Purohit started the wins taking his match over Greyson Casey 6-3, 6-3. Ivan Sodan shortly followed, winning his match in two sets over Chad Miller 6-1, 6-4. With one match needed to win, Bouchelaghem showed his strength beating Saiprakash Goli 6-3, 6-4. Just like that, the match was over and the Dawgs swept the match.
"At the start of the singles it was pretty close and pretty even and the guys who lost their first sets did a really good job today of making adjustments in those second sets, " said Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
"You're not winning matches just because you're better than people, you're winning matches because you got to find ways to win and you got to work super hard for all these wins and find just an extra one percent out of yourself just to get over the finish line."
Next up, the Huskies are back at home for their senior match on Sunday to take on No. 31 Illinois.
