UW MBB Inks Four Star Freshman Forward Jasir Rencher
April 17, 2025 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington head men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle added to UW's top-5 nationally ranked freshman recruiting class on Thursday, signing consensus four star prospect Jasir Rencher to a Big Ten Athletic Scholarship Agreement.
"Jasir is an explosive, high-level player who embodies everything we want in a Washington Husky," Sprinkle said. "He's incredibly versatile and has the ability to play multiple positions and impact the game in so many different ways. He has the length, quickness, and instincts to be a disruptive defender, and he takes pride in making things difficult for opposing teams. Offensively, he's a confident three-point shooter, but he also has the ability to put the ball on the floor, get downhill and create for others."
Rencher is the fifth incoming freshman to sign with the Huskies, joining Niko Bundalo, JJ Mandaquit, Courtland Muldrew and Hannes Steinbach, whose UW signing was announced on Wednesday. Washington's signing class is ranked as the fifth-best in the nation by 247Sports.com.
Rencher ranks as the No. 87 player in the nation by 247Sports, No. 22 among small forwards and No. 11 in California.
The Oakland, California, native led Archbishop Riordan High School to unprecedented heights this past season, guiding the school to its first-ever Northern California Open Division Championship. In the CIF Championship Game, Rencher led the Crusaders with 22 points in the game.
A first team all-state selection, Rencher averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals in 2024-25. For his efforts, he was named the San Francisco Chronicle's Player of the Year and Sports Illustrated's All-CIF NorCal Defensive Player of the Year.
A high-flyer in the paint, Rencher also proved to be more than capable from distance, setting the West Catholic Athletic League record for most three pointers in a single game, knocking down nine from behind the arc in a 33-point performance over Archbishop Mitty High School.
"Jasir plays with a competitive edge and a real sense of purpose," Sprinkle added. "He's wired to win and brings leadership, energy, and toughness every time he steps on the floor. His best basketball is still ahead of him, and we're excited to help him reach his full potential. Husky Nation is going to love his passion, effort and the pride he takes in wearing that jersey."
