
Huskies Open Black And Orange Classic 2-0

POCATELLO, Idaho – Washington softball extended its winning streak to 11 games with a pair of wins on the first day of the Black and Orange Classic. The Huskies opened Saturday with a 3-2 win over Idaho State and closed it out with a 7-5 victory over Montana.
UW moves to 17-7 overall on the season
WASHINGTON 3, IDAHO STATE 2
Stevie Hansen got the start in the circle, going three innings with three strikeouts. Sophia Ramuno (6-2) entered in relief to pick up her sixth win of the season while striking out five batters. Morgan Reimer (2) threw the final frame to earn her second save.
Idaho State got on the board in the second inning on a one-out solo home run.
The Bengals added to their lead on a wild pitch, scoring the runner from third for the 2-0 advantage.
Down to their final six outs, Sophi Mazzola led off the sixth inning with a walk. Jadyn Glab followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Alexis DeBoer sent her sixth double of the season to left center to tie the game at two runs each. A pair of groundouts plated the winning run.
MONTANA 5, WASHINGTON 7
Montana got on the board first with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning.
The Huskies were able to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning but were unable to drive in a run.
Gabi Toney put UW on the board in the second with an RBI double to score Tia Durst from first.
DeBoer tied the game at two with her eighth home run of the season in the third.
The Husky bats came out in the fourth, plating four runs on four hits. Mazzola brought across the first run on a single up the middle to score Toney from second. Alycia Flores extended the lead to two with an RBI single. Ava Carroll plated the final runs of the inning with her two-run single.
Flores added an insurance run for the Dawgs with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to bring in the seventh run of the game.
The Griz did not go down without a fight, scoring three runs in the seventh but Hansen and the Husky defense were able to close it out.
Reimer (6-4) picked up the win, going 6.1 innings in relief while striking out 10 batters. It is Reimer's second 10-plus strikeout game of the season. Hansen (2) earned the save getting the final two outs with one hit allowed and a strikeout.
Up next, the Huskies continue the Black and Orange Classic on Sunday with two games. Washington opens the day with a rematch against Montana at 9:00 a.m. PT and close out the day against former conference rival Utah at 2:00 p.m. PT.
